Zap syringoma

They are unsightly white, yellowish or skin-colored bumps that usually appear under the eyes. You may think they are small pimples, but they are more stubborn. And they are incurable.
“These are called syringoma, and they most often appear below the eyes, but they can also form anywhere on the face, in the armpits, chest or lower abdomen, or even on the genitalia. They usually start appearing during adolescence and are more common in women than in men,” says Dr. Johanna Borra, resident dermatologist of YSA Skin and Body Experts in Robinsons Metro East.
Syringoma are technically tumors, but Dr. Borra assures that they are harmless and painless.
“They are benign tumors and do not signal cancer or any underlying medical problem. Also, they do not spread like warts,” adds Dr. Borra, who has been with YSA for six years.
While syringoma does not require treatment, people who have them may be irritated as they may be itchy sometimes. And of course, they are not good to look at.
Unfortunately, Dr. Borra says there is no prevention for syringoma and there is no cure either. But your trusted dermatologist can remove them through a clinically safe and effective procedure.
“I tried squeezing, steaming, creams, natural treatments, and even warts remover to make them go away. But they just got more irritating and I’m afraid I will scar my skin,” says Bonna Paye Flores, a Zumba instructor and mother who noticed syringoma on her face six months ago.
Flores visited YSA Skin and Body Experts in Robinsons Metro East and Dr. Borra assisted her. Flores has been a loyal client of YSA for years.
“I use their products and services. Two thumbs up. Even their nurses are very friendly and their customer service is superb,” attests Flores.
“Results are visible within two to three weeks, and the syringoma will not come back on the spot where we removed them. The procedure only costs 2,000 to 4,000 pesos,” says soft-spoken Dr. Borra, a native of Iloilo.
YSA Skin and Body Experts Metro East started in 2001 and has remained one of the top branches of YSA in terms of sales. Visit the clinic or YSA branches nationwide for excellent skin and body care. #

YSA Davao opens

by Robbie Pangilinan
As the whole city of Davao held its annual Kadayawan Festival, a celebration of thanksgiving for life, nature and abundant harvest, YSA Skin and Body Experts also celebrated the blessing of its Davao clinic.
The blessing of the YSA clinic in SM Ecoland, Davao City on August 17 was attended by the owner Randolf Nazal, YSA Operations Manager Ann Gagarin, and Supervisor Orena Floria, as well as loyal clients and friends.
“This Davao branch of YSA Skin and Body Experts will bring the YSA brand of excellent care to more Filipinos,” says Randolf, brother of YSA Skin Care Corporation President Robert Nazal.
“The clinic actually opened last month and the operations and sales have been very good. We want to thank the people of Davao for that,” says Gagarin.
YSA Davao is the 28th branch of YSA clinics nationwide. It will offer YSA’s full world-class services.
“I am really happy that they brought YSA here, so we Davaoeños don’t need to travel to Manilapara sa pagpapaganda,” shares customer Maris Pangilinan, who trusts the YSA brand of skin and body care.
“We are opening two more stores before the end of the year,” said Nazal.
The clinic is open daily from 10am to 9pm. #

The beat of my 40-year-old heart

Ultimate Warrior said before he died, “No talent becomes a legend on their own. Every man’s heart one day beats its final beat, his lungs breathe their final breath. And if what that man did in his life makes the blood pulse through the body of others, and makes them bleed deeper, than something larger than life, then his essence, his spirit, will be immortalized by the storytellers, by the loyalty, by the memory of those who honor him and make the running the man did live forever.”
My heart has been beating for forty long years already. It almost stopped and gave up on me several years ago, but God has been good and here I am again, celebrating my special day.
For the past five years, I have been blessed to celebrate my birthday with all the people I know. This year my birthday saw a four-day celebration, starting from the day of my birthday August 17, in Davao City together with my YSA family as YSA opened and blessed a new clinic, which I can say is so far the finest of YSA’s 28 clinics nationwide.
August 18, I celebrated with the media and talents hosted by Pizza World, Fashion Smile, and Aramesh Spa owners Dr. Far and Dr. Shideh. My blogger friends, lifestyle and sports writers, and rising star Len Len Frial and singer Francine Rifol all came to celebrate with me. The lunch wouldn’t be complete without the special lechon sponsored by my boss and brother Robert Nazal, hunk president of Glutamax Paulo Legaspi, and my mentor Uncle MVP. We started at 11am and said goodbye at 4pm.
August 19, I invited my closest friends, the people who have been a blessing to my success and my partners in the industry, my best friend Hollywood director Gorio Vicuna and his wife Peejay, actor and producer Anthony Diaz who just arrived in the country and went straight to my event.
Rap artist Wilson Gaviola, a true brother to me, was also there, along with actor and fashion director Manu Respall, IFFB Pro Arnold Classic Gemmalyn Crosby and her husband Ric Crosby, lifestyle writer Anton delos Reyes, friends from Los Angeles especially Team Pacquiao, and Michelle Taruc, a BFF of Kris Aquino.
I was surprised when Century Tuna Body 2015 Champ Sarah Polverini came, because she was only 12 years old then when I first handled her career. And of course, my very special guests – my best friend, agent, manager , wife and “sugar mommy” Marissa  and my children who call themselves the INCREDIBLES. My night, and my life, is complete.
August 20 was my party with the community, relatives, gym mates and basketball team. Every year, I do an outreach program, feeding sopas and crackers to children in my neighborhood. The past years, I was able to share food with 50 children. This year, they were 115. The Skin Specialist Dr. Jean Marquez and my soulmate Gwen Pang sponsored the lechon. It was a great thanksgiving for all the people I have been with. I am not perfect, I have my shortcomings, but my goal in life is to speak and share positivity to all people. There were times when problems are too difficult to fix, but I believe that there is always a way.
A 4-day celebration may sound long to some people, but for me, it is very short to be with all my friends. I thank everyone who have been part of my life, through highs and lows, triumph and defeat. Thank you to all the greetings on social media. I was overwhelmed with all your love. Special mention to my cousin who sent a really touching message, NBI’s Palmer Umlas Mallari tod me: Pinsan, happybirthday. Keep brightening people’s lives.
All my life that’s what I do and what I want to do: brightening people’s lives.
Thank you and I continue to seek prayers for my health, especially my heart. But I am prepared to leave anytime because I know that I will be in the right place when the time comes.
When my heart one day beats its final beat, my lungs breathe their final breath, I know that I will have made the blood pulse through the body of others, and I can rest because I know that my spirit will be immortalized by the storytellers, loyalty, memory of those who will make my running live forever. Robbie Pangilinan

A Year of Contradictions

The year 2015 was one of the few years I stayed in the Philippines the whole year. Though I did not go to the NBA All-Stars, Pacquiao-Mayweather fight, Donaire fight, Ms. Universe 2015 and Marvin Sonsona’s fight in L.A, I did have a very fruitful and meaningful year with my clients old and new, family and friends.
I can say that 2015 was a year of contradictions – of abundance and emptiness, of gains and losses, of destruction and restoration.
The year started right as I covered the support of the Philippine Red Cross in the feast of the Black Nazarene on January 8 and 9, attended by millions of Filipinos. On the same month, PRC Chairman Richard Gordon and Secretary General Gwendolyn Pang, together with the International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC) Head of Delegation in the Philippines Kari Isomaa, personally checked the areas hardest hit by Typhoon Hagupit that affected 3.85 million people. I was amazed at the efficiency of the PRC in providing thousands of hot meals, food packs and liters of drinking water, blankets, mats and other non-food items. It sent ambulances, water tankers and fuel trucks to the Bicol and Samar regions. Tents and shelter repair items were dispatched with other emergency supplies including sleeping kits, tarpaulins, hygiene kits and jerry cans to Samar.
During the Papal visit on January 15 to 19, the PRC brought life-saving services such as medical, first aid and field hospital, ambulance transport, blood, rescue, water, welfare and tracing/restoring family links both to Manila and Leyte. More than 10,000 trained personnel and volunteers from the PRC Chapters were deployed to assist the public during Pope Francis’ visit.
It was in February when the Yellow Ribbon Movement (YRM) led by Chairman Margie Juico held the third leg of PNoy Sports to celebrate the birthday of former president Cory Aquino in Lourdes, San Miguel, Tarlac, inside the Hacienda Luisita. Eleven barangays from Hacienda Luisita participated in the campaign to promote health and wellness and re-live ethnic sports in the Philippines. The YRM also brought post-holiday cheer to the boys at the Silong Tanglaw Foundation for Street Children, a shelter for boys who were abandoned, abused, and homeless.
My good friend, one of the best coaches in the country, Coach Norman Black, renewed his longtime contract as endorser of Bosch Skil tools.
Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez and wife Councilor Cristina Gonzales-Romualdez invited me to a thanksgiving dinner for family, friends, U.S pastors and the media at the North Forbes Park on February 7. The “I Love Tacloban” band which Cristina established was launched. The band is composed of 11 youth, all of who are survivors of super typhoon Yolanda that devastated the Visayas region in 2013.
In March, I had the pleasure of meeting Top Rank Media Relations Head Ceatta Bogataj when she visited Manila with her friend Kitty. Sportsmanila covered the One FC event at MOA with good friend Loren Mack and Tammy Chan.
I gained friends, I lost some. This month, I ended my ties with Calayan SurgiCenter after a trivial act of posting a selfie photo in a posh derma clinic in Timog. I was unaware that I was not allowed to post my photos on my personal social media accounts. It was sad, but Dr. Manny Calayan and I remain friends until this time.
After a gloomy ending, there was restoration when in April, YSA’s Robert Nazal tapped me to assist in the publicity of their businesses, especially the Glutamax brand.
In May, Joaquin Canas of the Loyola Meralco Sparks Football Club became a talent of Team Sportsmanila, joining Coach Norman Black,International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness Pro Gemmalyn Crosby, Body Building Champ Luz McClinton, and rap artist Wilson Gaviola.
I was also happily reunited with a frat brother and a very good friend of mine, international Filipino director who was based in Hollywood for 10 years, Gorio Vicuña. Direk Gorio and I have shared ideas, topics and projects the past two years. Our pilot movie together, titled “Yolanda,” will be shown next year. We are also working on a basketball-based movie titled “Clutch.”
Kring-Kring once again trusted me to work on the PR of Patio Victoria, both Intramuros and Tacloban. I traveled back and forth Tacloban City and witnessed the rising up of the city devastated by the super typhoon. I was also there for the annual Sangyaw Festival where I brought media people for the entertainment and the coverage. A year and a half after typhoon Yolanda, Tacloban revived the Sangyaw Festival with the theme Tacloban: Resilient City! The grand festival was celebrated for a month, kicking off with a Grand Santa Cruzan on May 31and ending with the city fiesta on June 30.
There was another sad goodbye this year as I ended my contract with Red Cross, when the 18-month reporting of Project Haiyan commenced as well as the organization’s annual celebration of World Red Cross Day. It was a bittersweet moment, but working with Red Cross and Secretary General Gwen Pang is something I will always be proud of.
I celebrated my birthday with my family and friends from the media and sports industry, as well as celebrities, who sponsored the three birthday bashes I had this year. Calayan family matriarch Dr. Josy Calayan and Lalen Calayan, head of marketing of the Calayan Medical Group, Inc., hosted an intimate luncheon for my fellow media and friends in the industry at Cusina ni Bunso. An unforgettable dinner with the theme “Hip Hop Goes Ballad” was also held with rap artists, singers, directors, actors, and others. I also celebrated with my family, former classmates, gym mates, Slykane’s Tuesday Troops and my basketball team in the village where I live.
September was the anniversary month of The Skin Specialist, which has been pioneered laser treatments in the Philippines since it started in 2002 as the first dermatological clinic in Timog, Quezon City. Known personalities from in and out of showbiz Connie Sison, Lyn Ching, Luane Dy, Rhea Santos, Almira Muhlach, MJ Marfori, Rita Daniela, Alex Tinsay, Gwen Pang and Alma Concepcion graced the special anniversary event where the clinic’s latest treatment – the ClearTight laser was launched.
In October, my good friend Angelica Ligas, a Florida-based Filipina nurse, was named one of the 100 Most Influential Filipina Women in the World by the Filipina Women’s Network (FWN) in a gala event in San Francisco, California. Angelica was also cited by Tenet Healthcare USA as one of the 2015 Tenet Heroes out of more than 100,000 employees. She was also awarded the “2015 Most Successful Story of Buhay OFW” and the 2014 Heroes in Medicine by Palm Beach Medical Society USA for making a difference in health care.
A heartbreaking happening came before the year ended. I lost my six dogs – German Shepherds Tyrion and Ingrid, Mini-Pinscher Princess and Claudo, and their two puppies. But life abundant was given despite the loss. I praise God for giving my family Ichika Marie and Jasmine Eliz.
I am thankful to have travelled to Cebu, General Santos City, Iloilo, Dumaguete and Cagayan de Oro with Coach Norman Black; Tacloban City with Cristina Gonzales and my media friends; Tarlac with Chairman Margie Juico and the YRM team. I may not have left the country, but I found meaning in what I do here.
In this rollercoaster ride, I have my family and friends behind me. Thank you, Coach Norman Black, Dr. Jean Marquez, Angel Ligas, Gemmalyn Crosby, Jean Medel,  Photographer Rey Belgado, Rap Artist Wilson Gaviola and Gell Ang for being priceless and unexpected vessels of blessings to me and my family.
My best friend celebrity lawyer Atty. Alex Avisado who has always been there for me and with me in good and bad times; my good friends and prayer warriors, my sister-in-Christ Pia Macan, Dr. Jean Marquez, Pastor Hillary, Pastor Joey and Sister Ut Rafael, Tita Angeli Valenciano, public servants Kate Coseteng, Cristina Gonzales, and PRC Secretary General Gwen Pang; Dr. Far Shamsi and Dr. Shideh of Fashion Smile and Aramesh Spa; my neighbor and good friend, Manila Times President Dante “Klink” Ang, Journal Group Gus Villanueva and Lolo Pocholo Romualdez of Malaya Business Insight; my editors who have always been there, MST -Isah Red, Ms. Gianna Maniego, MST- Reira Mallari, Philstar -Ricky Lo, MB -Jojo Panaligan, New You Magazine -Ken Velasco, Malaya Gie Trilliana, Ate Che Francisco of Malaya, Philstar Eliz Lim, PEP Maridol Bismark and Police files Enjel Manato.
I am blessed to be part of the elite brand Glutamax and YSA. Special thanks to Sir Paulo and Sir Rocky, and my good friend and idol, the brains behind the success of Glutamax and YSA Skin Care Robert Nazal, and of course Ms. Sheila Nazal.
To all the people who had been there when I was not, and who got my back in times of need, thank you for your unconditional trust and valuable friendship.

Here’s to more abundance and less emptiness, added gains and fewer losses, further restoration and no destruction. Here’s to life and another exciting year ahead. #

ONE IN A MILLION ME

By Robbie Pangilinan

Every year as we celebrate our birthdays, we wish the next will be a blast. I wished that, too. And it came true.

Last year, I celebrated my birthday at Kamayan restaurant in Manila with my media friends and celebrities. TV host and former Councilor Kate Coseteng hosted my birthday with Hero Bautista, Sen. Nikki Coseteng, and Dr. Calayan’s family.

This year, I think, is the best year of my life. More than a hundred guests celebrated with me despite heavy rains. The party was awesome, thanks to Signum, Stage One Engineering, Signum Digital Printing, Andy Lugtu of Malungai Life Oil for the delicious food, Dr. Jean Marquez, PRC SEC-GEN Gwen Pang and my grand-uncle Manny V. Pangilinan for the lechon.

I was surprised for the presence of Boxing Champ Gerry Penalosa and his wife Goody, business tycoon Andy Lugtu, businessman Ariel Nepomuceno, PAGCOR’s Ed Caeg, Pastor Joey Rafael. Direk Hero Bautista and his wife Rio  and many more.

I also thank Dr. Manny Calayan, Dra. Jean Marquez, Selina Sevilla, Lalen Calayan, Slykane, Archie Malate, Women’s Journal Editor Rene Bisquerra and Mike Swift who got stranded in the heavy outpour, and Kate Coseteng who missed the party because of a bad jetlag.

My editors Isabel De Leon, Maridol Bismark, Gianna Maniego, Reira Mallari, Ricky Lo, Dina Chan, Ken Velasco, Klink Ang, Malou Rosal, Gie Trilliana , Eliz Lim, Enjel Manato and PCSO Chairman Margie Juico sent their birthday wishes through text messages. I got an unexpected call from Vice President Binay.
The first quarter of the year was very challenging. I overlooked some contracts that have expired, though I believe that those contracts were not really meant to be renewed for one reason or another. After my TV show’s final episode October last year, I predicted the first quarter of 2013 will be difficult. But I held on to Hebrews 11.1, “Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”
God tested my faith. Because whenever bad things happen in my life, I know He is there.

I had a sad experience after a two-week coverage in London last March. I became a victim of trust by a fellow journalist, a friend. I almost lost my credibility and with it, my hard-earned 10-year career, but I was able to prove that people in the industry had utmost trust and confidence in me.

April, I flew to New York to cover the fight of Nonito “The Flash “ Donaire. I stayed in New Jersey with my publisher for eight days then flew to Los Angeles. I went back to Manila last May 2.

I told myself that after covering the losses of Pacquiao, Donaire, and UFC Filipino fighters, I’d pass up on the Pacquiao fight in Macau in November. I also needed to rest my back due to my scoliosis.
When I got back, I was excited for my upcoming projects. But what was funny was I did not know what these projects were. God has not revealed them to me yet. I just claimed and declared it.

Three weeks before my special day, I received an email from a prospective client, instructing me to prepare my PR presentation. I did, and by God’s grace, my proposal was approved.
Mark 9.23 says, “Everything is possible for him who believes.”

Thank you to the beautiful people who make me look and feel good – Dra. Jean Marquez of The Skin Specialist Clinic, Pastor Joey and Sister Ut of Alabang New Life Christian Fellowship, Rex Malabanan of Manila Natures Link, PCSO Chairman Margie Juico, Pritzi Lopez, and Coach Norman Black.

I would like to thank my business partner and friend Pia Macan for her contribution to my business. We have been working together since 2004.

I have upcoming trips – in September to Iloilo with my talent Coach Norman Black for Bosch Skil, Cagayan de Oro and Cebu for PCSO, in October to Bohol and Boracay, and in November to Camsur and Davao.
I am inspired to know that I am one in a million. I have witnessed greatness unfold and have seen extraordinary moments take place, but what has happened to me is truly unique and special. I have the best job in the world as a PR manager, consultant, image builder, cook, waiter, TV show producer, massage therapist, good son, responsible father, a contributor writer for lifestyle and sports, a production assistant in church and everything else in between.

PCSO continues innovations

By Robbie Pangilinan

The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) has sealed an agreement with 19 private hospitals for its Individual Medical Assistance Program (IMAP).

This is PCSO’s response to the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation’s call for a Universal Health Care for all Filipinos, also known as Kalusugan Pangkalahatan (KP) to ensure that all Filipinos have access to quality health services that are efficiently delivered, equitably distributed, fairly financed and appropriately utilized by an informed and empowered public.

The 19 hospitals are Alabang Medical Clinic, Capitol Medical Center, Colinas Verdes Hospital Managers Corp. (formerly Cardinal Santos Medical Center), Dr.  Jesus Delgado Memorial Hospital, Delos Santos Medical Center, Manila Adventist Medical Center, Manila Doctors Hospital, Marikina Valley Medical Center, Martinez Memorial Hospital, Mary Johnston Hospital, Mary Chiles Hospital, Inc., Medical Center Manila, Medical Center Paranaque, Metropolitan Medical Center, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, St. Clare's Medical Center , St. Agnes Hospital, United Doctors Medical Center, and UERM Memorial Medical Center.

Conceptualized in 1993 to address the medical and financial needs of sick individuals, the IMAP covers individuals from all walks of life, regardless of political affiliation, social standing, whether he is a member or non-member of Philhealth, as well as HMO cardholders.

The program uses a standard rate in the processing of financial assistance to ensure the rational allocation of resources to marginalized individuals who come for assistance to PCSO.

“Over the years, the program is on constant look out for innovations to effectively deliver services to a wider scale of beneficiaries putting emphasis on the role of the agency of augmenting to the medical needs of our clientele,” reports PCSO Chairman Margie Juico.

The PCSO is the principal government agency for raising and providing funds for health programs, medical assistance and services, and charities of national character. In adherence to its main thrust of providing funds for health programs and other charities, the PCSO is engaged in various social welfare and development programs.

“Our mission is to provide timely and responsive health and welfare assistances, hence, we are constantly on the look out to improve and upgrade our services to the public,” ends Chairman Juico.

PCSO saves great deal in first half of the year

By Robbie Pangilinan

The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO)’s on-line lottery sector has surpassed itself yet again in savings for January to June 2013.
A total of P149,078,507.93 in savings was generated from rental expenses, equipment leave agreement and thermal and bet slips (paper for lotto bets and receipts for lotto payments).

PCSO Chairman Margarita P. Juico added that the agency has also saved from streamlining of processes, institution of reforms, reduction by 20% of the cost of medicines from the lowest-priced formulary, rationalization of personnel, LGUs’ donation of office space for PCSO branch offices nationwide, cost cutting measures and judicious spending, review of our game’s prize structure and strict fiscalization, and negotiations with existing suppliers for a reduction in prices.

“The Board made a commitment to each other and to PCSO to do whatever will be beneficial to the institution and not to themselves and wasted no time in instituting internal controls, fiscal discipline and good governance. We revoked contracts which were found to be disadvantageous to PCSO, reviewed and revised board resolutions which did not sit well with what we intended to do, we did a time and motion study as well as a workflow of all processes especially the frontline services to ensure punctual, effective service was rendered,” shares the Chairman.

Further, the once co-mingling of operating, charity and prize funds was segregated. Before, there was no way of knowing which fund was already used up. The segregation required a serious review of budget utilization, meaning spending within the limits as apportioned in a year. The PCSO also had an annual procurement plan based on the corporate operating budget as well as a review of administrative processes and financial policies.

In order to maintain this, Chairman Juico has the following strategies: “We are almost done with the rationalization plan of the office.  We try to put good people in positions of responsibility. We try to empower them with the right attitude and behaviour. We implement good governance habits so that long after we are gone, they can stand up against any board member or person who will make them do otherwise.”

Congressmen commend PCSO

By Robbie Pangilinan

Some members of the Congress commended the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) for its good performance, as General Manager Jose Ferdinand M. Rojas II presented the agency’s operational and financial highlights and major thrusts for 2012 and 2013, as well as plans and programs for 2014.

Rep. Isidro Ungab, Chairperson of the House Committee on Appropriations led 21 other congressmen from other committees in giving praise to PCSO and also to Chairman Margie Juico for the agency’s accomplishments. “I salute Chairman Juico; she is more specific and strict on her rules. And we had a great time listening to her,” said Rep. Noel Villanueva of Tarlac. Chairman Juico and GM Roxas reported on the performance of PCSO for the past years and the current year, the outlook for the coming years, and the fiscal and macroeconomic assumptions used in the formulation of the agency’s budget.

The chairman informed the House of PCSO’s distributions of revenue allocation from the sale of sweepstakes, lotto and other games for the past three years (2010-2012) and estimates for 2013 and 2014, including actual remittances to the National Treasury and mandatory contributions pursuant to laws and other executive issuances. Juico also reported about contributions of the PCSO to the National Treasury in terms of taxes, dividends and other remittances for the last five years, and the COA Annual Audit Report for FY 2012, PCSO Annual Report for the year 2012, FY 2013 Corporate Operating Budget as approved by the Board of Directors, and Fund Allocation for various laws as of June 30, 2013.

The PCSO is the principal government agency for raising and providing funds for health programs, medical assistance and services, charities of national character, as well as various social welfare and development programs. Chairman Juico reflects integrity in the way she leads the agency. From day 1, she has vowed to make her administration transparent and this trickles down to her staff, who she empowers with the right attitude and behavior. “We implement good governance habits so that long after we are gone, they can stand up against any board member or person who will make them do otherwise,” she shares.

BLACK RENEWAL OF FRIENDSHIP WITH BOSCH

By Robbie Pangilinan The third winningest coach in the history of the PBA has signed a renewal contract with Skil – a brand of power tools distributed by Robert Bosch. Black, probably the best import to have ever played in the PBA and one of only four to accomplish a rare grand slam feat for the San Miguel Beermen in 1989, admits using the tools in his house. With his wife, Coach Norman has built a small gym in their abode using Skil tools that include circular saws, cordless drills, cordless screw drivers, cordless tackers, cordless sealant guns, belt sanders, random orbit sanders, multi-sanders, angle grinders, hammers, drills, mixers, jig saws, lasers and measuring tools, reciprocating saws, routers, and planers. "I am happy to endorse a product that I have been using for years already," said Black during the March 30 contract signing with Bosch executives Mr. William Go, Country Sales Director and Mr. Martin Valenzuela, Brand Manager for Skil. The Skil endorser is excited for his coming coaching commitments. In July, he will vie for his fifth straight title for the Ateneo in the UAAP and in October, will be the head coach of Talk N Text after his last PBA championship with Sta. Lucia. He will also be a consultant of the national basketball team.

Calayan in probation in the US, now back in Manila

By Robbie Pangilinan

MANILA, PHILIPPINES (via PCSO) Beauty doctor to the stars Manny and Pie Calayan were sentenced to three years of probation in Glendale, California after they were charged with four counts of practicing medicine without a license last September arrived in the Ninoy Aquino International Airport via Eva Airlines yesterday noon.

Manny Calayan, the pioneer of Smartlipo and Vaserlipo in the Philippines, said that one of his staff at the Calayan Medical Aesthetics clinic in West Hollywood performed procedures outside of the clinic. He also denied that the Hollywood clinic was shut down, as previous reports said.

“It’s not true that we’re practicing unlicensed here. It is not true we’re running an unlicensed office here, so wag sila maniwala sa mga chismis na ‘yan. It’s true that it was one of our staff, but it’s not in our premises,” Calayan said in a press conference held in a restaurant in Makati City.

He said that he and wife Pie only did procedures that they were licensed to do at the Hollywood clinic, such as facials, spas, and non-invasive beauty treatments.
The Calayans have filed a lawsuit against the said staff member, their former clinic manager Aida Arceo, who ran off with $2.5 million. Arceo has denied all charges and refused to be interviewed but said she can prove her innocence.

Calayan alleged that Arceo has been declaring that she has shares and money contributions at the Calayan Corporation USA since the start of the business in Hollywood. Dr. Manny also claimed Arceo sold Calayan products without their knowledge and some of the products are not even Calayan. She pretended to be Dra. Pie and called their bank manager, trying to get their bank account details.

“She brought our patients to other doctors, even sold our clinic fictitiously. She borrowed money from us. She billed us without official invoices and official receipts. She always asked Dra. Pie for check payments named under her,” Doc Manny divulged some of the things Aida Arceo did.

Aida’s family also put up a medical supply shop in the USA which Doc Manny called “fictitious.” She used this shop to bill the Calayans for medical supplies that were not really for them. Arceo has also victimized Filipino celebrities, private individuals, as well as other doctors.

Even while on probation, the doctors are not required to report to a probation officer and will not be monitored. They should not break any laws during their three-year probationary period. They will also pay fines of more than $10,000.

Last month, the Calayans pleaded guilty to one count each of a misdemeanor; violating the business and professions code for operating a business without a license.
“There’s no jail time, just a standard admission, no civil liability, there’s been no restitution request as of yet. Just a 36-month probation, that’s it. Just a business and professions code violation,” explained Atty. David Hakimfar, the Calayans’ lawyer. #

Ready to be Mommy

By Robbie Pangilinan

When she had her first child four years ago, she was more than ready
to be a mommy. She was of age, has been married for almost a year, and
was in the career she has dreamed of.Her heart was also set on
becoming a mother.

Ryan Cedric Andreas came into the life of the three-term councilor of
the second district of Valenzuela City KateGalang-Coseteng, and with
him came a newfound joy for the neophyte mom. Kate is married toJulian
Coseteng, councilor of the third district of Quezon City, and Ryan
completed their little family.

Kate says that husband Julian was fascinated with the three names they
gave Ryan. Ryan means “king,” Cedric means “kindly and loved,” and
Andreas means “manly” or “warrior.”

As ready as she thought she was, Kate still had “panic” moments as a
mother. One time, Ryan had a really bad case of diarrhea and the
always-elegant and cool Kate did not know what to do.

“I panicked and rushed to the E.R. We prayed hard and of course it
really helped that we were blessed with a good pediatrician,” Kate
shares. She admits that the hardest part of being a mom is taking care
of a sick child.
Joshua Caleb Matthew came three years after.

He was named after the Bible character who led God’s people into the
Promised Land. Joshua means “God is salvation.” Caleb was Joshua’s
loyal friend and encourager who, because of his faith, was one of the
few who believed that they can claim the land the Lord promised. Caleb
means “fearless, bold and loyal.” Matthew means “God’s gift” and
happened to be the first book of the Bible that Kate and Julian read
together from beginning to end.

Four-year-old Ryan is very inquisitive, askinglots of questions and
playing with all sorts of toys. He loves tagging along with his
parents wherever they go. Physically, Ryan got Kate’s eyes, height and
love for numbers.
Caleb, only 10 months old, is very cheerful and gets very excited
around people (the makings of a politician, just like his mom and
dad?). It looks like he also got Kate’s height. Healso got the hair of
Kate’s dad. Both boys got their parents’ love for eating!
Mommy Kate is a loving mom, the kind of mother who prioritizes the
welfare of her children above her own and the kind who puts a high
premium on her children’s relationship with God. Kate considers her
own mother as her mentor in parenting.

“From my mom, I’ve learned how to be patient and nice to my children.
When you meet my mom, you’ll immediately notice that she’s very nice.
Actually every time my children misbehave, or when I’m starting to get
irritated with some of the thing they do, I would remember my mom,”
Kate says.

Kate, who is always excited to go home to kiss and hug her two boys,
also tries to be a disciplinarian to Ryan, who already attends Nursery
school.

“We ‘use the rod’ in situations when there is repeated disobedience
and defiance to existing rules that have been explained. Before we
spank, we explain why and of course we restore and pray after we
discipline,” Kate explains.

The Coseteng family enjoys spending time together – travelling, going
to the mall, attending church, watching movies and playing. Soon, they
would also want to have a little princess, a baby girl so that the
kuyas will have someone to take care of.

Kate would like to be a bit stricter in terms of handling the sleeping
pattern and habits of her children, particularly of Ryan who sleeps
quite late. It is a challenge to adjust his sleeping pattern to a more
healthy one. To do that, Kate needs to fix her own sleeping pattern
and adjust her schedule according to her children’s needs.
Right now, Kate is focusing on raising the boys with the proper
attitude and fear of God.For her, the most important thing is to teach
her children to know God and trust in Him and everything else will
follow.

“Asparents, we have learned that blessings of all kinds will come with
having a strong and personal relationship with the Lord,” Kate says.

Just like any mom, Kate hopes and prays that the little gentlemen,
while growing up, will not be involved with the wrong crowd.

“I also pray that they be successful in everything they do, keeping
the the Lord in their hearts and minds in whatever they do and
wherever they go,” says Mommy Kate.

This day of moms, Kate would love to have a “personal butler” because
“I just want to sleep and eat on Mother’s Day,” she laughs.
For the mothers out there, Kate wishes, “May the Lord guide you in all
the things you do and may you and your family be blessed with good
health and happiness.” #
